This is a gallery showcasing my reportage on the Yazidi genocide carried out by ISIS starting in 2014. Around 4,400 Yazidis were killed, and 10,800 were injured or kidnapped. The genocide occurred in Northern Iraq, specifically in the Sinjar province. In August 2014, when ISIS entered Sinjar, about 50,000 Yazidis fled to Mount Sinjar, seeking refuge. They defended their families with weapons for months from atop the mountain, but ISIS had surrounded it. The lack of food and water led to the deaths of thousands of Yazidis on Mount Sinjar.
These images show how the Yazidi people have been forced to live from 2014 up to now, on Mount Sinjar and in refugee camps. Their homes were destroyed by ISIS and during fights with Iraqi and Kurdish forces, and they lack the money to rebuild them.
