This is a reportage from Mosul, Iraq, during the first days of September 2017, about a month after the liberation of the old city from ISIS (Daesh). Some ISIS fighters were still in the old part of Mosul when I took these photos. I heard lots of sniper rifles, and Iraqi soldiers often found ISIS’s ammo and food—signs that ISIS fighters were still hiding in the ruins.

This reportage is connected to the story of the refugees in northern Iraq, showing how and where people who escaped from Mosul and Daesh are living now. The reportage on the refugees in northern Iraq is available here:  Iraq 2017
